Inverness & Loch Ness

Inverness is the love child of a cute-as-a-button little town like Pitlochry and a rich mature gentleman like Edinburgh.  It feels like it’s in the wilderness yet it’s bustling with pubs, shops and cafes.  It has a castle and plenty of old town cobbled streets, yet it’s smallish and peaceful.  I found it really charming and could easily live there.  It isn’t big enough for Isaac…so I’ll miss him when I find a job there.  Also it's off Loch Ness, so it's got a sea monster.  More towns should have sea monsters quite frankly.  Inverness has the River Ness elegantly wriggling through it, which itself has a few little islands that are reached by foot bridges.  It makes for a really pleasant stroll down the river, which we took with every boy and their mothers last Sunday as it was Mothers Day.  UK has a different Mothers Day to back home...I hope...er, if I've made some sort of error, I'm sorry mum - Happy Mothers Day.

We stayed in a backpackers for two nights which was actually a lot nicer than the hotel we were at in Fort William.  Also a lot cheaper.

Being the crap tourists that we are, we didn’t bother with the castle.  Seriously, I thought it was the crappiest castle I’d ever seen because it looked like it was built yesterday.  Isaac liked it.  But he’s just weird.

We went to the museum which was great, and found a coffee shop that sold quality leaf tea and awesome coffee.  I believe this coffee shop was the highlight of our visit to Inverness.

Our next Helpx at the Skye Backpackers awaits us.…stay tuned earthlings!
