Something happened on Saturday.
We spent the morning lazing around in the air con cause it was hot as balls outside. Seeing as we're rubbish at grocery shopping now, we got hungry, and had to leave the house for lunch. Sure, let's make a date of it - let's go out for lunch and frosty cider - yeah, that sounds great! There's a place called Ben's Burgers in the Valley which is down a stinky alley, has a tiny menu, but it knows what it's doing. It's doing burgers. And it's doing them like a steamy love scene in that filthy novel you just can't put down..
So we strap on our sandals at around 1.30pm or so. We shuffle out of the elevators and are met by our school-boy cute bell boy who steers us away from the front entrance and asks us to go out the back. Sure...ok. We see they've put sheets up all over the glass in reception. Ooo maybe they're filming something! A couple of weeks ago they were filming the sequel to Pacific Rim just down on Eagle Street. We got to see people running down the street in that mock panic one has when they're being chased by an enormous pretend kaiju. It was nifty!
So we head out the back entrance and walk around to the front, and are met with police tape. Right across Adelaide Street. There were a few police cars. They've closed the street. Ok. And there is a red bag. Big bag..kinda long, like...like a body bag.
Tree branches and leaves littered the ground around.it.
Is that... I looked up, and about halfway up our building it looked like there were smashed windows. I looked back down, and a lady and a man picked up the red bag. It moved oddly, like maybe it wasn't completely solid. They put it in the back of a van with 'Newsomething Funerals' on the side.
Not an ambulance.
Fuck.
I felt weird. I still feel weird. Admittedly it brought back some bad memories that are still wafting around, even now.
I didn't want lunch, so I just stole Ize's chips and drank.
And kept drinking.
What I find interesting is that I can't find anything except one dude's tweet about it online. Lots of people would have seen what happened. It was in the middle of the day, right in front of reception, there is a cafe that serves breakfast right beside us that pretty much overlooks that area. People would be talking about it on Facebook, twitter, their blogs... wouldn't they? I understand that it's kept out of the news. But shouldn't I be able to find people talking about it?
I don't want to advertise it if that's what really happened. But..when something shocking happens, we shouldn't feel like we can't talk about it. I kinda desperately want to know what happened. Why isn't anyone talking about it? I feel we need to discuss this. Or perhaps people are and I'm just not looking hard enough? Perhaps people have suddenly mastered their fb privacy settings? Though, it's true I'm not good with fb, which is why I have this blog. So I don't have to use scary social media that I don't understand.
My big bro called me from the US at about 1am, so I got to talk about it. Thanks bro, always my hero xo
Oh so I went to the gym tonight. I've already done more gym classes this year than I did last year. I've also done my first class of a 10 week Japanese course. I spoke in front of the class, AND did group work. Look at me adulting all over the place.
And yet, still, I feel weird.
